On this day in the Civil War, Confederate guerrilla’s led by “Bloody” Bill Anderson loot and burn Centralia, Missouri. During the day they capture a train and kill over 20 unarmed Union soldiers. Later that day the guerrilla’s ambush a column of Union Cavalry and kill another 100 Federal soldiers.

On this day in the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln and his cabinet meet about the crisis in Chattanooga. Lincoln decides to send General Joseph Hooker’s 2 corps from the Army of the Potomac to Chattanooga by rail.
