On this day in the Civil War, General John B. Hood’s Confederate army attacks the Union army commanded by General John Schofield at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee. This battle, known as the “Gettysburg of the West”, ends in a devastating loss to the Confederates. The Rebel army loses over 6,000 men and 6 Confederate generals are killed.
