On this day in the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln is inaugurated as the 16th President of the United States of America. In his address to the nation Lincoln vows to uphold the Union, saying to Southerners, “In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war.”
